InBIA Business Incubation Certificate Program

InBIA's Business Incubation Management (BIM) Certificate Program is specifically designed for managers and professional staff of incubators, accelerators, coworking spaces, maker spaces and other entrepreneurial support organizations (ESOs). The courses are designed on a competency based model, which defines the knowledge and skills participants need to have to design and build sustainable ESO programs, while also verifying knowledge comprehension through assessments based on key foundational concepts.

The curriculum incorporates experiences of members who have built sustainable programs, case studies of diverse ESO models, and emerging trends in the field. Specifically, the curriculum covers best practices in selecting and serving client companies, budgeting, sustainable revenue generation, facilities management and more. InBIA instructors are experienced leaders in business incubation and entrepreneurial support. Each has a minimum of 10 years of executive experience in designing and building sustainable ESOs that include business incubators, accelerators and other models. In addition, most are published authors and popular speakers in their fields of expertise, and frequently serve as consultants on business incubation best practices across the world.

  • Course 4: Design and Management of Facilities that Serve Entrepreneurs  - This course provides best practices for selecting and managing facilities for incubators, accelerators, maker spaces and coworking spaces.

Note: Participants are not required to take all four courses at one time, these can be taken individually over a period of time. Ideally, all four courses should be completed within a 2-year (24-month) window.

Online Instructional Format & Schedule

Online certification courses are conducted over a two-week period, with 10 days of self-guided instructional time and a 4-day testing window. Participants are not required to complete certificate courses consecutively; however, it is recommended to complete courses in sequence and with minimal downtime between courses to bridge the core competencies between coursework.

Each course is equivalent to seven hours of in-class training and contains the same content offered at InBIA's classroom-based courses. The content has been redesigned to be an asynchronous self-guided course over a 10-day period. Instructors will kick off each course with a one hour interactive webinar, and will be available through email and an online office hour sessions to enable participants to ask questions and extend online content with practical examples and personal knowledge. All live webinars and online office hour sessions will be recorded and made available for those that are unable to attend the live sessions.

Online Assessments

After the 10-day instructional period for each course, participants will have a 4-day assessment window to complete an online exam. Participants will successfully complete each course by demonstrating their knowledge in a timed online assessment comprised of approximately 40-50 questions. External resources may be used to complete the assessment, but participants must complete the assessment in 90-minutes. To successfully pass the course, participants must earn a 75% score or higher on the exam.
